The Knowledge Technologies for Democracy (KT4D) project focuses on leveraging AI and Big Data to enhance democracy and civic participation. By combining cultural studies with software design, it aims to develop tools and guidelines to empower communities while addressing ethical, legal, and cultural risks. Validated across European cities, its goal is to foster a balance between democratic values and technological advancements.
With AI permeating various facets of our lives – from homes to workplaces and personal devices – ensuring the reliability of its applications is paramount. Equally crucial is the establishment of public trust in these advancements. The EU-supported AI4Gov project is dedicated to confronting ethical concerns, fostering trust, and mitigating issues related to discrimination and bias associated with AI and Big Data.
In contemporary societies, a notable gap exists between the engagement of citizens and policy-making bodies. The ORBIS project, funded by the EU, aims to bridge this disparity by tackling the divergence between visionary concepts and collaborative efforts. Its mission is to facilitate the shift towards a more inclusive, transparent, and trustworthy deliberative democracy in Europe. Through deliberate democratic processes, the project endeavors to craft and reinforce innovative democratic models.
